The Rabbinical Alliance of America Commends Unilever for Ending Ben & Jerry’s Anti-Israel Boycott
The Rabbinical Alliance of America — Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis— applauds Unilever for ending Ben & Jerry’s anti-Israel boycott. Unilever said it reached a deal in which it sold the Israeli branch of the ice cream brand to the current Ben & Jerry’s licensee in the country. This will allow him, as the new owner, to sell anywhere in the country. This move by Unilever comes after Ben & Jerry’s independent board decided last summer to boycott Judea and Samaria, territories that Israel liberated in the Six Day War of 1967. By stopping sales in Judea and Samaria, Ben & Jerry’s joined a global campaign known as “BDS,” which stands for boycott, divest and sanction, that targets Israel alone among all the countries in the world. The Rabbinical Alliance of America — Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis— welcomes the Supreme Court of the United States of America’s decision of Carson v Makin as a victory for religious freedom. In Carson v. Makin, the United States Supreme Court held in a 6–3 landmark decision that the exclusion of faith-based schools from Maine’s tuition-assistance program for students in rural school districts is unconstitutional and that the program discriminates against faith-based schools. The Carson decision clarifies that the Constitution prohibits the government from withholding public benefits from religious schools. Chief Justice John Roberts states this clearly in the majority opinion: “The State pays tuition for certain students at private schools—so long as the schools are not religious. The Rabbinical Alliance of America Joins America in Mourning the Victims of the Buffalo Supermarket Massacre
The Rabbinical Alliance of America—Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis—joins America in mourning 10 people and 3 others who were severely injured by a gunman motivated by hate on May 14, 2022, at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket.
The 18-year-old suspected of opening fire on innocent victims reportedly told authorities he was targeting the Black community. The alleged gunman reportedly made disturbing statements filled with hate toward the Black community. He published a white supremacist manifesto online and traveled a great distance in order to accomplish his hateful plan. Investigators also uncovered other information indicating he had studied previous hate attacks and shootings in order to prepare with great forethought his own hateful attack on innocents.
“The evidence that we have uncovered so far makes no mistake that this is an absolute racist hate crime. It will be prosecuted as a hate crime,” Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said. “This is someone who has hate in their heart, soul and mind.” The Buffalo attack was the deadliest US mass shooting of the year.
