On September 5, 2023, the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabbonim (RAA/Igud) celebrated its 35th annual Chai Elul Siyum HaShas and 81st annual dinner at the famed Sephardic and Lebanese Congregation under the guidance of its esteemed and venerable Mara D’atra, Rabbi Eliyahu Elbaz. The theme of the evening was “Rabbis helping rabbis help the community.” Speaker after speaker discussed the various ways in which RAA/Igud supports its nearly 1,000 member rabbis who are busy serving the community in shuls, schools, hospitals, law enforcement, the armed forces and every other conceivable rabbinic position. Rabbinical Alliance of America Memorializes Chacham Shalom Elbaz, Zt’l, and Discusses Important Issues Facing Klal Yisrael at Rosh Chodesh Av Conference
On Rosh Chodesh Av, July 19, 2023, the Igud HaRabbonim/Rabbinical Alliance of America convened its monthly conference which took place at the Ahi Ezer Yeshiva Congregation where Igud HaRabbonim Presidium Member, Rabbi Hanania Elbaz, is the Mara D’atra. The Rosh Chodesh Av Seudah and Conference was l’zecher nishmas HaGaon HaChacham Shalom Ben HaGaon HaChacham Chayim Elbaz, Zt’l father of Rabbi Hanania Elbaz and father of Rabbi Eliyahu Elbaz, who is the Rabbi of the Sephardic Lebanese Congregation of Brooklyn. On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Rosh Chodesh Sivan, family and friends of Joar bat Yehuda, Mrs. Sylvia (Azoula) Ivry a”h, gathered together at Congregation Etz Chaim of Flatbush, where the renowned Rabbi Simcha Silverman serves as Rabbi. This Rosh Chodesh Sivan conference of the Igud HaRabbanim marked the Shloshim of this important member and stalwart of the Crown Heights community. The Igud HaRabbonim membership represents and serves a broad spectrum of the Orthodox Jewish community, including rabbis and congregations that are Modern Orthodox, Yeshivish, Chasidish, Sephardic and Chabad. Mrs. Ivry was a generous woman who gave to others with a constant smile. It didn’t matter what kippa one wore, with which community one affiliates—she saw the tzelem Elokim, the divine image, within each person and was ready to help them in any way she could. While she was a longtime resident of Crown Heights, she spent many days in other parts of Brooklyn. Whether she was driving her kids to school at United Lubavitch Yeshiva on Ocean Pkwy or to Melave Malka events in Flatbush with the Abehsera family or, in her later years, visiting nursing homes and assisted living facilities, she felt part of all Jewish communities. Therefore, it was apropos that her life and legacy was commemorated with the Igud HaRabbonim in Flatbush, where attendees heard divrei Torah from a variety of rabbis who drew connections between her legacy to the Torah. Potential legislative danger, what the kosher consumer needs to know for Pesach 2023, and terror in Israel were on the mind as the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabbonim met on Sunday, March 19, 2023 for its Rosh Chodesh Nisan conference and seudah. The gathering was hosted and sponsored by the Lido Beach Synagogue, where the esteemed Rabbi Elly Krimsky serves as rabbi. Rabbi Krimsky is a widely respected expert on the shul rabbinate, a “rabbi’s rabbi,” whose guidance and advice is widely sought. His hosting of this conference offered attendees the opportunity to see him in action and gain from his expertise. The conference attendees prepared for Pesach with an overview of this year’s Pesach kosher concerns, a warning about the religious dangers of proposed Daylight Savings Time legislation, and a condemnation of terror in Israel.
