Don’t wait until last minute to work on your security grant.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security – FEMA finally released the

Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and Investment Justification for the FY 2025 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), but the application process is different this year.

NY State and CT details for nonprofit applicants will come later. DHS required eligible states and territories to apply for targeted funding allocations and plans to allocate the NSGP 2025 funds soon. The states and territories are likely to issue their Requests for Applications in October and the race will begin.

What should you do?

  • Assemble all of required pieces of the grant. There can still be a very short application window, don’t wait for the last minute.
  • Reviews CSI preliminary guidance. Click here to open CSI’s tutorial for the NSGP 2025. We will adjust it when the final details are released, but the guidance won’t change much. Download the NSGP 2025 Investment Justification in the button below.
  • Check if you’re still prequalified. Special warning: The financial submissions to SFS must be regularly updated. If your organization is already prequalified, we advise you to check the expiration date and to update your documents, if necessary, ASAP. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial.
  • Get your UEI. Last year, DHSES did not require applicants to have a UEI (Unique Entity Identifier) number to apply. We don’t know if that will be the case this year.
    • If your organization already has a UEI, you’re all set. Nothing else is needed.
    • If your organization was previously assigned a DUNS Number, it has been replaced by a new UEI (Unique Entity Identifier). Login to sam.gov to check your new UEI.
    • If your organization has not previously applied for federal assistance, register at sam.gov and you will automatically be assigned a UEI. There is no charge for sam.gov registration.

Keep up-to-date. NY organizations should check the DHSES Nonprofit page often. Contact DHSES at 1-866-837-9133 or email them at Grant.Info@dhses.ny.govClick here for the CT Federal Nonprofit Security Program webpage. And don’t forget the dedicated CSI Security Grants WebpageApplicants in other states should consult with their own authorities. Click to the State Administrative Agency (SAA) Contact List to find the right contact for your state.

Have all of the components of your application package ready (see below) to submit via E-Grants in NY (E-Grants Registration Form) or the CT DEMHS Electronic Grants Management System, including your NSGP 2025 Investment Justification, mission statement and assessment.
