The Rabbinical Alliance of America Congratulates Rabbi David Yosef on his Appointment as Rishon LiTzion and Rabbi Kalman Ber as Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel
Brooklyn, N.Y. – On November 3, 2024, the Igud HaRabbonim/Rabbinical Alliance of America (RAA) held its monthly Rosh Chodesh (Cheshvan) conference at Kahal Bnei Matisyahu in Brooklyn, New York, under the leadership of RAA Presidium Chairman, Rabbi Yaakov Klass. The conference was sponsored by Rabbi Klass, his brother Mr. Arthur Klass, and their family, in memory of their late mother, Mrs. Hilda Klass, A”H (Moras Hinda Bas Reb Simcha Halevy). Rabbi Yaakov Klass presented a special Torah thought in honor of his mother’s memory.
In light of a call from Gedolei Torah and the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, Igud HaRabbanim reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Israeli Chief Rabbinate as the supreme Halachic authority in Israel. This position reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment since its founding 82 years ago to uphold centralized rabbinic leadership under the guidance of prominent Torah scholars.
Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, Executive Vice-President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, officially congratulated Rabbi David Yosef on his appointment as Rishon LiTzion (Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel) and Rabbi Kalman Ber on his appointment as the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel. On behalf of the Igud HaRabbonim, Rabbi Mirocznik conveyed the organization’s enthusiastic and full support for the new Chief Rabbis in their roles, emphasizing the importance of maintaining religious order and halachic authority in Israel.
“Igud HaRabbonim, as an influential American rabbinical association representing over 1,000 rabbis throughout North America, Europe and Israel, was called upon by Gedolei Yisrael and the Chief Rabbinate to lend its voice in support of upholding halachic standards in Israel,” stated Rabbi Mirocznik. “We fully endorse the Chief Rabbinate’s authority over critical matters such as kashrus, conversion, marriage, and divorce. We are committed to strengthening our bond with the Rabbanut to enhance Torah observance and the fulfillment of mitzvos.”
The Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan conference featured additional prominent speakers, including Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Serebyanski, Rosh Kollel of Ayshel Avraham Zichron Yaakov; Rabbi Avraham Hecht of the Jewish Community Center of Canarsie; Rabbi Yehuda Blank, vice-president, Professional Development and External Affairs, Rabbinical Alliance of America and Rabbi Gil Student, Director of Vaad Halacha at Igud HaRabbonim. Their insights contributed to the event’s focus on Torah learning, unity, and support for halachic leadership in Israel.
The Rabbinical Alliance of America looks forward to a continued partnership with the Israeli Chief Rabbinate to uphold halachic standards and strengthen Jewish life both in Israel and the diaspora.
