The Rabbinical Alliance of America — Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis — calls upon the Trump Administration to compel Pakistan to keep the terrorist murderer of journalist Daniel Pearl imprisoned or to bring him to justice in the United States before an American court. Daniel Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter, was kidnapped in Pakistan in 2002, while working on a story covering jihadists. Tragically, 38-year-old Pearl was murdered in cold blood by terrorists because he was an American and a Jew.
A ruling by Pakistan’s Supreme Court on June 29, 2020, paves the way for Daniel Pearl’s murderer to walk free as early as July 2, 2020. The Pakistani Supreme Court denied the Pakistani government’s appeal to vacate a lower court’s April 2020 ruling that shamefully exonerated Ahmed Omar Saaed Sheikh’s sentence after a 90-day detention order that is set to expire on July 2, 2020. The killer of Daniel Pearl has also been identified by prisoners at the United States Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a co-conspirator in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, executive vice-president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America stated, “as an American, I am beyond shock and disbelief how the Pakistani Courts arrived at the illogical conclusion that no sober judge in their right mind could have reached — the exoneration and vacature of the sentence of a terrorist, the cold blooded murderer of Daniel Pearl.
The Rabbinical Alliance of America calls upon the Trump Administration to prevail upon the Pakistani Government to ensure that this heinous murderer remains in prison and faces his sentence. If that fails, all Americans and peace-loving people should urge the Trump Administration to track down, arrest and bring the terrorist murder to an American court to be held accountable for the murder of Daniel Pearl and for his role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
To allow this terrorist and evil individual to escape punishment constitutes a perversion of justice and insult to the American people. Our hope and prayer is that justice shall prevail and this great travesty be avoided.
