The New York Police Department has reached out to the Jewish Community to request that this year we should advise our friends and family not to go to the Staten Island Ferry as a Chal Hamoed family trip.

The Staten Island Ferry is limited to 600 passengers per trip to and from Staten Island and should be only used by first responders and those who urgently need to travel from New York to Staten Island. Anyone traveling on the ferry who does not fall into the criteria as a first responder or a person with an exigent reason to travel on the ferry is potentially placing themselves and or our first responders at risk and in harm’s way.  Attempting to take the ferry ride at this time for recreational reasons will be irresponsible and will lead to a Chilul Hashem. Besides being turned away you may be harming someone else.

Thank you for understanding and cooperating.
