The Rabbinical Alliance of America — Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis — condemns today’s brutal anti-Semitic terror attack in which the perpetrator entered a synagogue in Monsey, New York, and stabbed at least three people. He viciously stabbed one of the victims in the chest. Police are currently searching for the attacker.
Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, executive vice-president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, stated, “It is frightening that during Chanukah, a holiday which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, we are sadly experiencing a rising tide of anti-Semitism and hate. This is the eighth reported attack over Chanukah this year. These anti-Semitic hate crimes are in direct opposite of what we as Americans stand for and believe in namely freedom, liberty and respect.
“We need to move beyond condemnations by elected officials and law enforcement, and see action to prevent these recurring anti-Semitic attacks. It is important that all political, law enforcement and religious officials condemn these attacks, but that is only the beginning. As a society, we must use every resource to combat these vicious and vulgar anti-Semitic hate crimes, both through prevention and punishment.
“We need to hear clear plans on how Jewish citizens will be protected from these hate crimes. Do our political and law enforcement leaders lack the ability or will to protect Jews? How can New York State reach the point where a violent attacker enters a synagogue and stabs worshippers? There must be an immediate response to prevent these atrocities from continuing!
“Once again, the RAA calls upon faith leaders, elected officials, community leaders and all peace-loving people to stand united together in the condemnation of hate, bigotry and ant-Semitism. We further urge Clergy to use their pulpits in denouncing hate, bigotry and anti-Semitism and we must find the way to educate people who have hate in them to see the error in their ways. As Americans we must all feel that hate against one group is hate against all of us and make it clear that there is no place for hate in the United States.”
The RAA calls on lawmakers and law enforcement officials to implement immediate plans to protect Jews from the rising tide of violent anti-Semitism.
