On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, the Rabbinical Alliance of America — Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 American rabbis — convened its monthly conference at Congregation Knesseth Meir in Far Rockaway, New York. Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, executive vice–president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America thanked Rabbi Betzalel Korn, rabbi of Congregation Knesseth Meir, for hosting the conference and Rabbi Moish Schmerler, director of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, who together with Rabbi Mendy Borenstein and Rabbi Yitzchok Noach Borenstein sponsored the dinner and conference in memory of their respective father-in-law and father Rabbi Shmuel Borenstein, ZT’L, who served for nearly half a century as a teacher (Rosh Mesivta) at YUHSB MTA.
Councilman Fernando Cabrera, a staunch supporter of Israel, attended the meeting and presented a legislative report. He emphasized the need to protect religious liberty, fight anti-Semitism and support the State of Israel. Councilman Cabrera stated, “I want to express my deepest thanks to the Rabbinical Alliance of America. As a member of the New York City Council and Chair of the Committee on Governmental Operations, I’ve had the honor and privilege to fight for the most important causes, causes that ensure that all of us are protected by the law from the forces of division and from those who eschew hate. The current political climate requires all of us to fight even harder for the future of our children and grandchildren. We must never forget how dangerous the world has become and why now more than ever, supporting our friends and allies throughout the world is critical for America leadership in the world. There is no more important friend and ally than Israel, especially with the challenges we see now in the Middle East. We will meet these challenges by first standing together in our faith in God and unquestionable support for Israel and the Jewish people there and here in America.”
Rabbi Mirocznik stated, “In today’s world of uncertainty, it is refreshing to hear Councilman Cabrera so cogently describe the America-Israel relationship. As rabbis, we appreciate his sensitivity and understanding of the unique bond between America and Israel. We are fortunate to have elected representatives such as Councilman Cabrera who have the courage to speak the truth, particularly in this time when there is a growing failure to comprehend the importance of the America-Israel friendship in bringing peace and stability to the Middle East and the entire world.
Also participating in the meeting and the memorial of Rabbi Shmuel Borenstein, ZT’L were Rabbi Betzalel Korn; Rabbi Dovid Katz, Menahel of the Rabbinical Alliance of America; Rabbi Moshe Schmerler; Rabbi Mendy Borenstein; Rabbi Leonard (Yehuda) Blank, Director of the Chaplaincy Commission and External Affairs of the Rabbinical Alliance of America; and Rabbi Yaakov Klass, Presidium Chairman of the Rabbinical Alliance of America.
